I did see lots of disk i/o going on so thought maybe disk i/o was a bottleneck so I upgraded my Fusion drive by replacing the spinner with an SSD and everything speeded up but I'm still encountering the spinning beach ball hang too often (but not always) when switching modes. Then I upgraded to 128 Gigs and Monitor shows me that I've got plenty of memory capacity beyond what PR is demanding in either virtual or real space. Originally I had 32 Gigs of RAM and saw the problem so I thought perhaps this new release of PR had some memory leaks and was churning because the OS didn't have enough available memory to meet all demands. Obviously it's not hanging up on data retrieval or insufficient RAM. I've tried killing all other apps but the problem still appears. Anyone else using PR2020 having this problem (or not)? If so have you found a solution. In the fullness of time it suddenly completes whatever it's doing and returns control to let me continue processing. Normally PR2020 responds quickly on this rig but often when switching modes, say from Browse to Develop, it goes into the spinning beach ball mode and when I watch with Monitor all Monitor can tell me is that PR is not responding. I'm using PR2020 on my iMac 27" (early 2019 model) with 128 Gigs of RAM and a 2TB SSD.
