I’m not going to link to the version of this where I pulled the images because of some of the embarrassing text that appears there. I honestly didn’t have a plan before that. It finally clicked that this was a thing I could do in college and a job and like it. I took a coding class my senior year of high school, about a year after creating this site. I am sure many people that will read this made many things on the internet before that, but it’s still a gut check. I made a thing and put it on the internet then. I have attached many such images to this post. I know it let you do things in “3D”, which seemed novel. I don’t remember the name of the program I used to do the text. The most complex thing was probably creating an image map with four circles. I wrote some things there I am still proud of (anti-racist things), some I’m indifferent to (straight edge things) and some I am ashamed of (ranting about jocks… no jock ever did a mean thing to me, and any animosity was completely made up by me). It was *not* pretty, but it was real and on the internet and I made it and it started to unlock what coding could do. What was exciting was I could type a thing and it would show up in a browser. It was on geocities at first, then moved to a friend’s domain because that seemed exciting. It was sort of coding, but also mostly done with a WYSIWYG editor.

But HTML is a modeling language, not a programming language… maybe calling it code is OK, but I stumble saying it was programming since there wasn’t JavaScript or anything.Īlright, that’s out there. Creating beautiful HTML (which I didn’t) is a tremendous skill. I am going to make a caveat because the first time I “created” something on a computer with “code” it was a website in HTML.
